I known I'm biased, but I think my son is insanely cute--even more so in person than in photos.

Parenthood!

Linda and I brought Zerihun home on March 7 but of course I've been too busy and exhausted to post about it. We took numerous pictures in Ethiopia, but before I can post them I need to clear a level surface on my desk so I can open up my laptop.

Zerihun!

Our son is outrageously cute. This morning we received an e-mail with a 20-page report on Zerihun: lots of pictures and the first in-depth description of his behavior and personality. Sounds like he's doing great.

Update: More pictures.

And, just FYI, our Zerihun gift registry at Target.

Going to Ethiopia!

On Feb. 27 Linda and I are leaving for Addis Ababa to meet our son, Zerihun! The adoption was made official in Ethiopia in mid-January and a new birth certificate listing us as his adoptive parents was issued last week.

Anonymous Christmas gifts

Posted by curt 10:23 | Permalink Permalink | Comments | General

We received several gifts from one or more unknown senders. They were mailed from a third-party vender, possibly via Amazon (some of them were on my wish list). Whoever you are, thanks! Here's what we got:

Thanks again!

While I'm here, I'll give a shout out to Linda's mother, Carol Peters Barry, who among other things sent Sandman Vol. 2 and Marcus Samuelsson's The Soul of a New Cuisine: A Discovery of the Foods and Flavors of Africa. We've already gotten a lot of use from the cookbook: Yesterday I made a pan-African Christmas dinner: doro wat with injera, lentil stew and sauteed bok choy (okay, the bok choy was a substitute for morning glory), served, of course, with a 2004 Louis M. Martini Cabernet Sauvignon. On Sunday I made steak spiced with boharat plus a rice dish from Senegal.

Adoption referral!

Posted by curt 10:33 | Permalink Permalink | Comments | adoption

Last week Linda and I received a referral for a handsome 26-month-old Ethiopian boy. We are faxing our acceptance today. We expect to travel to Addis Ababa in about 12-16 weeks.
